FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

They are our second-best-selling EV charger. Customers typically ask for a 14-50 or 6-50 level 2 EV charger. 6-50 EV Chargers are popular due to the use of this plug type initially by Tesla and other wall box manufacturers. The NEMA 6-50 plug does not require additional wiring, such as a neutral wire so it is less complex and cheaper to install

6-50 is the electrical standard name given by NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association) to describe a 3-prong 240-volt outlet. It is a 3-blade receptacle

A NEMA 6-50 at its highest setting will provide up to 40 amps, equivalent to 9.6 kilowatts per hour (kWH) of power to the electric vehicle at a range of 208 to 240 volts depending on local power supply. Plug-in hybrid vehicles often will not benefit from the 9.6 kilowatts of available power and will generally only accept 3.7, 6.6 or 7.4 kilowatts per hour

A 6-50 will provide around 36 miles of driving range per hour of charging (+/-15% depending on the vehicle, battery life, and temperatures).

There is no major disadvantage compared to a 14-50. A 6-50 does not have a neutral wire so is cheaper and easier to install but provides less flexibility in the future.

We provide both NACS level 2 EV chargers and J1772 level 2 EV Chargers. From 2025, most newly produced electric vehicles will be NACS standard. Ford will transition key models from 2025, whilst Hyundai, Kia, and Genesis will start at the end of 2024. A NACS connector and a J1772 connector provide the same level of level 2 charging power.

All the major car manufacturers have announced plans to move to a NACS charging port standard from J1772/CCS 1. Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis will be the first out the gate followed by GM, Ford, Volvo, Nissan, Toyota, and Lexus.
Our NACS EV chargers provide 40amp powerful level 2 EV charging as do our J1772 EV Chargers
