Choosing the right plug for your home

Make sure the plug type you choose matches the outlet type you have at home. While many outlets look similar, they are definitely not the same. The one called NEMA 5-15 is the regular 120V household outlet that all home appliances use, while other outlet types, such as the 14-50 or 6-50 (The two most popular EV Charging Outlets), get installed specifically for appliances or EV Chargers that require 240V. That said, there are more 240V outlet types that are commonly used, such as the NEMA 14-30, 6-30, 6-20, L14-30, and more.

Customer Reviews

  1. Melissa B

Purchased a level 2 Outlander EV charger from these guys. Getting the full 38 mile range and charging super quick, so great for topping up as I do a lot of around town driving. Fully charged in about 4 hours. We have an unusual location for the EV plug (due to where our panel is) so the longer cable is useful

  2. Alan Freeman

We love our Outlander and the car salesman recommended a level 2 EV charger to get slightly quicker charge than the regular plug socket type. It’s about 40% quicker with the 14-50. It was quick to set up and hassle free. Reliable charger. No issues.

  3. Ryan (verified owner)

We have a 2023 Outlander PHEV and this charger works fantastic. Fast delivery and easy to use. Thank you!

  4. Ian Andersen (verified owner)

A well designed and built EV Level 2 charger. Fast Delivery to Canada and it came with a nice carrying case plus a unique plastic protector to help prevent rust from eventually getting into the receptacle on your vehicle.

  5. Joseph (verified owner)

Easy installation, I’ve been using it for over two months now with no issues.

  6. A L Faustino (verified owner)

Charger was delivered on time and works well. However, I never received tracking information that would allow me to make sure I was home when it was delivered. Nor did I receive a message that it was delivered. It seems that I have come to expect this because the other online retailers that provide this level of service and this website promised the same service but did not deliver.

Overview Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV chargers

Launched in 2023, the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid is an award-winning electric vehicle with a variety of impressive features. The lithium-ion battery pack offers 38 miles on a full electric charge, powered by a 13.8kWh battery, upgraded from a 12kWh battery pack in the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV earlier model. Both models are compatible with either Level 1 or Level 2 J1772 EV chargers at a rate of 3.7 kilowatts per hour on a 240-volt outlet. Unlike most electric vehicles and PHEVs, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is one of the two that use a CHAdeMO port for DC or fast charging in North America.

The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV’s charging speed is notable. Its charging power limit is 3.7 kW, and using a Level 2 charger, it takes approximately 4 hours to charge, but using a public charging station with a CHAdeMo connector, it gets to 80% in about 30 minutes.

*The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV battery acceptance charge rate is restricted to 3.7kW/hour therefore, the charge times are calculated at this rate.

For longevity of the battery, the ideal charging range of the battery is from 20% to 80%. Excessive charging beyond this range may slow the overall charge time, and impact battery performance.

Why upgrade your Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV chargers

The fastest residential charging option for the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is provided by Level 2 (240-Volt) EV chargers, which maximize the acceptance rate of the vehicle’s charging capacity. An upgrade from the manufacturer’s Level 1 (120-Volt) EV charger will significantly reduce charge times from 10 hours to 3.5 hours, allowing owners to use more electric miles from their vehicle. This convenience of home charging eliminates the need to search for public charging stations. In addition to quicker charging, this will allow owners to save money on expensive gasoline miles, avoid unnecessary trips to the gas station, and fully benefit from the satisfaction of EV acceleration and cleaner emissions.

Connector type and charging rates

The Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid is compatible with a Type 1 SAE J1772 charger connector, which can be used at home, work, or in a public charging point. The speed at which the Mitsubishi Outlander can charge on a Level 1 or Level 2 charger is restricted to the maximum alternating current (AC) charge rate of this specific vehicle, which is 3.7kW/hour. The vehicle’s internal software will determine this and only take the charge it is rated for; this prevents any overcharge of the car’s battery. Additionally, it features a CHAdeMO port for DC fast charging, making it compatible with many public chargers and getting it to 80% in about 30 minutes instead.

What is the fastest charger for my Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid?

The quickest charging option is a Level 2 32 amp or 40 amp, 240-volt charger, which is offered for the NEMA 14-50 and 6-50 outlets.

What connector type does a Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid use?
Minus Icon Plus Icon

The Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid uses a J1772 Type 1 connector for Level 2 charging and a CHAdeMO connector for DC fast charging.

Is a level 1 EV charger sufficient for charging?
Minus Icon Plus Icon

Generally, no. Although compatible with Level 1 chargers, it will take around 10 hours to charge an empty battery. Therefore, it will also reduce the electric miles of your EV since your battery is unlikely to be fully charged overnight or while electricity is at a super off-peak cheaper rate.

What are the most popular level 2 EV chargers for Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid?

Due to the speed of a full charge, the number one charging option is the Level 2 14-50 240-volt EV charger. This charger will provide a fully charged battery for your EV within 3.5 hours.

What is the main benefit of level 2 EV charging?
Minus Icon Plus Icon

A level 2 240-volt charger will allow owners to benefit from advantageous charging times and charging costs and revoke the limitations of level 1 charging options. The capability for a complete charge at overnight lower-cost rates will allow EV owners to fully benefit from all factors of electric driving.
