Make sure the plug type you choose matches the outlet type you have at home. While many outlets look similar, they are definitely not the same. The one called NEMA 5-15 is the regular 120V household outlet that all home appliances use, while other outlet types, such as the 14-50 or 6-50 (The two most popular EV Charging Outlets), get installed specifically for appliances or EV Chargers that require 240V. That said, there are more 240V outlet types that are commonly used, such as the NEMA 14-30, 6-30, 6-20, L14-30, and more.

The Porsche Taycan is a stunning luxury performance electric vehicle with an abundance of style and class; however, has certain drawbacks if you are looking to maximize the electric range and efficiency. Porsche has introduced two versions of the Taycan, a standard model with a 79kW/h battery and an extended range 93kW/h battery, both of which have a maximum acceptance rate of 11kW/h. The electric range provided by the different models is 208 miles and 242 miles, respectively. The Porshe Taycan can be charged by a J1772 Type 1 EV charger on a 240-volt outlet. The driver side is equipped with a J1772 AC socket, while the passenger side has a CCS Combo socket for both AC and DC charging.

The key benefit of upgrading your Porsche Taycan charger from a manufacturer Level 1 EV charger to a Level 2 J1772 Type 1 charger is reducing charging times significantly and allowing owners to recharge their electric range fully. Home chargers offer the convenience and cost-effectiveness of recharging at home, with varying power ratings like 3 kW and 7 kW, and potential government grants for charge points. There are additional benefits of Level 2 charging, such as the added convenience of home charging at 240 volts, which, combined with fast charging, will provide owners with the chance to complete a full overnight charge at cheaper overnight electricity rates.
The Porsche Taycan is compatible with Type SAE 1 J1772 charger connectors and can be charged at home, work, or public charging stations with said connector. The Porshe EV chargers have a maximum alternating current of 11kW/h, which is determined by the car’s onboard software and will ensure the EV’s battery charges up to that capacity.
At EV Chargers, we supply charger types to suit all EV owners. Our most popular Porsche Taycan EV Charger is the NEMA 14-50 40amp given the fastest charging times provided by this charger, and taking into consideration that Level 1 EV charging is too slow for fully electric vehicles. A popular alternative to the 14-50 is the 14-30 EV plug since this is a Level 2 EV charger as well, which is a 240-volt plug that many households already have for heavy-duty electrical appliances.
The Porsche Mobile Charger is a convenient and portable charging solution for your electric Porsche. Designed to provide a fast and efficient charging experience, this mobile charger is perfect for daily use, whether at home or on the go. Equipped with a 5-inch touchscreen display, it allows you to easily monitor and control the charging process, ensuring your electric Porsche is always ready to hit the road.
With a power output of up to 22 kW (AC), the Porsche Mobile Charger is versatile and compatible with both 240V and 120V outlets. This flexibility makes it an ideal choice for various charging scenarios. The 7.5m long vehicle cable provides ample length for easy connection, no matter where your charging port is located. Safety is a top priority, and the mobile charger includes features such as overcharge protection and automatic shut-off, ensuring a safe and reliable charging experience every time.
We speak to many EV owners who choose to charge their vehicle at home due to the convenience and flexibility it offers. Nevertheless, the Porsche Taycan can also be charged at work or any other Level 2 charging stations, which may be found via charging apps or the vehicle’s own software. Various charging networks require an RFID card or alternative payment options such as a smartphone app or credit card to initiate charging. Overnight stay locations, such as campgrounds may also have charging facilities, and the 14-50 outlet receptacle is the most common charger for such locations.
Porsche has partnered with various public charging networks to provide its customers with access to a vast array of charging stations. These networks include Electrify America, Pod Point, and others, offering a wide range of charging options and locations. With the Porsche Charging Service, finding and accessing public charging stations has never been easier, making long-distance travel in your electric Porsche more convenient than ever.
The public charging network offers both AC and DC charging options. AC charging is suitable for slower, overnight charging, while DC charging provides faster charging speeds, perfect for quick top-ups during long trips. Payment is straightforward, with options including RFID cards, credit cards, and mobile payments, ensuring a hassle-free experience when using public charging stations.
The total cost to fully charge your EV will vary depending on several factors, such as location (either residential or commercial), the time of day, and the EV’s charging capacity. Another key factor is the State you charge in, as electricity in some States is much more expensive than the current average electricity rate of 20 ¢/kWh, which has been used in the calculation below.

Installing a charging station at home can be a convenient and cost-effective way to keep your electric Porsche charged and ready to go. Porsche offers a range of home charging solutions, including the Mobile Charger Connect and the Wall Charger Connect. These chargers are designed to provide fast and efficient charging and can be installed by a certified electrician to ensure optimal performance.
Regular maintenance of your charging station is essential to ensure safe and reliable operation. Porsche recommends periodic checks of the charging station and cables, as well as keeping the software updated to maintain compatibility with your electric Porsche. Following the manufacturer’s instructions for cleaning and storing the charging station and cables will help prolong their lifespan and ensure they remain in good working condition.
Yes, as a fully electric vehicle, you can charge your Porsche Taycan at any Level 1, Level 2, or superchargers with J1772-CCS1 Combo connectors.
The EV charger that provides the fastest charging times for the Porsche Taycan is either a NEMA 14-50 or NEMA 6-50, both available in 32 amps or 40 amps at 240 volts.
Similarly to most EVs, the Porsche Taycan uses a J1772 SAE Type 1 charger connector. No Porsche EVs are currently fitted with the NACS connector.
Typically not, as a fully electric vehicle with larger battery sizes of 79kW/h battery and 93kW/h, it would take 53 hours and 63 hours, respectively, to fully charge the Porsche Taycan models with a Level 1 EV charger.
Our most popular EV charger for the Porsche Taycan is the 14-50 NEMA, Level 2 240-volt EV charger, given that this charger provides the fastest charging times and is compatible with most charging locations nationally.
The primary benefits of Level 2 charging are the flexibility and convenience of charging at home with the fastest possible home charging options and cheaper electricity rates than commercial. As Level 2 charging provides the fastest home charging times, owners benefit from supplying the maximum electric mile range at cheaper overnight electricity rates.
The Porsche Taycan onboard charger, known as the power acceptance rate, limits the kW/h that can be supplied to the vehicle at any time. This is currently maxed at 11kW/h. Future versions of the Porsche Taycan may have higher power acceptance rates.
A: AC charging is suitable for slower charging, typically used overnight, while DC charging provides faster charging speeds, ideal for quick top-ups.
A: Charging times vary depending on the method and battery capacity. With the Porsche Mobile Charger, you can charge your electric Porsche to 80% in under 5 hours.
A: The public charging network offers a range of payment options, including RFID cards, credit cards, and mobile payments, making it easy to pay for your charging sessions.
