Make sure the plug type you choose matches the outlet type you have at home. While many outlets look similar, they are definitely not the same. The one called NEMA 5-15 is the regular 120V household outlet that all home appliances use, while other outlet types, such as the 14-50 or 6-50 (The two most popular EV Charging Outlets), get installed specifically for appliances or EV Chargers that require 240V. That said, there are more 240V outlet types that are commonly used, such as the NEMA 14-30, 6-30, 6-20, L14-30, and more.

Launched in 2023, the all-new Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid is an award-winning electric vehicle with a variety of impressive features. The lithium-ion battery pack offers 38 miles on a full electric charge, powered by a 13.8kWh battery, upgraded from a 12kWh battery pack in the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV earlier model. Both models are compatible with either Level 1 or Level 2 J1772 EV chargers at a rate of 3.7 kilowatts per hour on a 240-volt outlet. Unlike most electric vehicles and PHEVs, the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is one of the two that use a CHAdeMO port for DC or fast charging in North America.
The Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV’s charging speed is notable. Its charging power limit is 3.7 kW, and using a Level 2 charger, it takes approximately 4 hours to charge, but using a public charging station with a CHAdeMo connector, it gets to 80% in about 30 minutes.

For longevity of the battery, the ideal charging range of the battery is from 20% to 80%. Excessive charging beyond this range may slow the overall charge time, and impact battery performance.
The fastest residential charging option for the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV is provided by Level 2 (240-Volt) EV chargers, which maximize the acceptance rate of the vehicle’s charging capacity. An upgrade from the manufacturer’s Level 1 (120-Volt) EV charger will significantly reduce charge times from 10 hours to 3.5 hours, allowing owners to use more electric miles from their vehicle. This convenience of home charging eliminates the need to search for public charging stations. In addition to quicker charging, this will allow owners to save money on expensive gasoline miles, avoid unnecessary trips to the gas station, and fully benefit from the satisfaction of EV acceleration and cleaner emissions.
The Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid is compatible with a Type 1 SAE J1772 charger connector, which can be used at home, work, or in a public charging point. The speed at which the Mitsubishi Outlander can charge on a Level 1 or Level 2 charger is restricted to the maximum alternating current (AC) charge rate of this specific vehicle, which is 3.7kW/hour. The vehicle’s internal software will determine this and only take the charge it is rated for; this prevents any overcharge of the car’s battery. Additionally, it features a CHAdeMO port for DC fast charging, making it compatible with many public chargers and getting it to 80% in about 30 minutes instead.
