Mercedes Chargers EV Chargers

Mercedes has leveraged its European expertise in electric SUVs, sedans and sport vehicles and applied it to the U.S. EV market. Mercedes will continue to rival Audi and Lexus in competing in the high end luxury EV market. Mercedes entered the U.S. market via its Mercedes B Class, Mercedes C-Class and Mercedes GLC range of EVs. The company now has an established range of plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles. We receive requests for EV chargers for new Mercedes and used Mercedes EVs when a replacement or faster portable EV charger is needed. Many owners prefer to make their own choice in EV chargers rather than 3rd party auto manufacturer affiliations, which can be much more expensive or where there is little information. For Mercedes, many EV owners prefer to upgrade a more powerful level 2 Mercedes EV Charger. We recommend our level 2 NEMA 14-50 9.6 kWh Mercedes EV charger, which can be fixed or portable. This is significantly faster than level 1 provided Mercedes EV Chargers. Like many manufacturers, the Mercedes fleet is less focused on residential charging solutions and so many customers use our service to find the right EV charger and installation options.

Connector type and charging rates for Mercedes-Benz EVs

The Mercedes-Benz EV fleet use the J1772 connector for Level 1 and Level 2 AC charging in North America. The J1772 connector is the standard for EVs in North America and Canada and is compatible with Level 1 (120V) and Level 2 (240V) charging stations which are commonly available in homes, workplaces, and public charging locations.

A common feature across the EV fleet is the maximum alternating current (AC) the vehicle can accept, which supports up to 11kW of AC charging. This enables Mercedes EVs to fully take advantage of the 9.6kW power provided by Level 2 charging for the quickest home and public charging options. PHEVs, however, are limited to a maximum AC of 7.4kW charging power, therefore cannot fully utilize the 9.6kW provided by Level 2 charging although this would still provide the fastest charging times.

The new Mercedes-Benz Wallbox is an advanced home charging solution with intelligent features and a sleek design, making it an ideal choice for convenient at-home charging.

For faster direct current (DC) charging, these facilities typically use CCS connectors which are only compatible with the Mercedes fully electric models, as plug-in hybrids currently do not support DC fast charging.

Best charging locations for your Mercedes-Benz EV

The best charging locations for your Mercedes-Benz EV or PHEV include both home charging and public charging stations. For home use, Level 2 chargers (240V) are the most efficient option, allowing you to fully charge your EV overnight at cheaper overnight electricity rates and the added convenience of home charging. It would take between 7.5 – 11.5 hours to fully charge a full EV model and between 2 – 7 hours for a PHEV, depending on battery sizes.

Public charging options include Level 2 chargers, which are commonly located at shopping malls, parking garages, and workplaces, as well as DC fast chargers along highways for rapid recharging during longer trips. DC fast chargers offer the fastest charging option, providing an 80% charge in about 30-45 minutes.

Mercedes-Benz EVs are compatible with various third-party charging networks like ChargePoint and Electrify America. At present, Mercedes EVs do not support NACS charging options, and Audi has not announced plans for future compatibility. As a result, Mercedes EV owners cannot access the Tesla Supercharger network.

Cost of charging a Mercedes-Benz EV

The cost of charging your Mercedes EV will vary based on factors such as whether you charge at home or at a commercial charging station, the time of day, your U.S. state, and local electricity rates.

The charging process is managed efficiently to minimize costs and enhance user experience, with systems that automatically start, end, and manage the payment of the charging process.
