Choosing the right plug for your home

Make sure the plug type you choose matches the outlet type you have at home. While many outlets look similar, they are definitely not the same. The one called NEMA 5-15 is the regular 120V household outlet that all home appliances use, while other outlet types, such as the 14-50 or 6-50 (The two most popular EV Charging Outlets), get installed specifically for appliances or EV Chargers that require 240V. That said, there are more 240V outlet types that are commonly used, such as the NEMA 14-30, 6-30, 6-20, L14-30, and more.

The Ford Escape is a compact crossover SUV that Ford first launched in 2000. Ford is now on its fourth generation of the vehicle and recently added a plug-in hybrid version of its popular car. The all electric range competes very favorably in its category with a long all-electric range of an EPA-estimated 37 miles, which covers most about town driving. We still receive requests for new and replacement Ford C Max Energi EV Chargers. Our EV Chargers are light, portable and can be moved if you rent or plan to move house, as well as be used outside of the home where plugs are available e.g. RV parks or other residences. Recommendation: Given the relatively small battery size (14 kwh) and lower charging speed (3.3 kWh), which limits how much power you can charge the car at, we recommend a NEMA 5-15 (level 1) EV charger. This will fit into any regular 3 pin residential plug. Charge times are around 4.5 hours from empty (seldom happens in practice) and 2 1/4 hours from a 50% battery (in practice when most EV owners will charge up in our experience)
