Choosing the right plug for your home

Make sure the plug type you choose matches the outlet type you have at home. While many outlets look similar, they are definitely not the same. The one called NEMA 5-15 is the regular 120V household outlet that all home appliances use, while other outlet types, such as the 14-50 or 6-50 (The two most popular EV Charging Outlets), get installed specifically for appliances or EV Chargers that require 240V. That said, there are more 240V outlet types that are commonly used, such as the NEMA 14-30, 6-30, 6-20, L14-30, and more.

Overview Chrysler Pacifica EV Chargers

Introduced in early 2017, the Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid was the first of its class in the U.S. market to provide 33 all-electric miles that, combined with gas, give 30 MPG of city/highway driving. The 16kW/h lithium-ion battery pack can be charged with a Level 1 or Level 2 Type 1 J1772 EV charger at a maximum acceptance rate of 6.6 kW/h with a 240-volt outlet. To charge the vehicle, plug the AC plug of the charging set into the grounded wall receptacle. The charger cord, typically a Level 1 120-volt AC charging cord set, is used to connect the vehicle to the power source. The charge active indicator lights will cycle from left to right when the charging cord is inserted correctly, and once the vehicle is fully charged, the lights in the charge indicator will show all five bars. There are many questions about EV charging for Chrysler Pacifica PHEVs, so we have produced the guide below to answer any questions you may have.

EV Charging times for Chrysler Pacifica EV Chargers

We have produced the table below to estimate the Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid’s charge times from empty to full and compare different common residential plug types for both Level 1 and Level 2 charging. Charging times will vary based on factors such as the condition and state of charge of the high voltage battery.

Plug Type
Level 1 - 5-15 (regular 3-pin) 120V
Level 2 - 14-30 (4-pin electric dryer type) 240V
Level 2- 14-50 (4-pin) 240V

To preserve the battery’s longevity, the preferential charge range is 20% to 80%, which will avoid any potential reduction in battery performance but slower charging rates outside this range.

Why upgrade your Chrysler Pacifica EV Chargers

Most Chrysler Pacifica PHEV owners seek the fastest charge time for their PHEV to transition to electric mobility, which offers the convenience of driving mostly on electric power while reducing emissions. The electric motor in these vehicles plays a crucial role in providing the benefits of electric driving, allowing for flexibility between all-electric power and the gas engine. To speed up the charge time, we recommend upgrading from a manufacturer’s Type 1 Level 1 EV Charger to a Type 1 Level 2 240-volt EV charger. Faster charge times will allow owners to utilize more electric miles, saving money on expensive gas miles and providing the full benefit of electric driving with added acceleration and cleaner green driving.

Connector type and charging rates

The Chrysler Pacifica PHEV can be charged with a Type 1 J1772 charger connector from the convenience of your own home, at work, or at a public charge point. To start charging, the charger cord needs to be plugged into the vehicle’s power outlet, ensuring the vehicle is turned off and in park. Wherever you charge, the Chrysler Pacifica maximum alternating current (AC) charge rate is limited to 6.6kW/h. Therefore, with a 40amp/9.6kW EV charger, the car will only take the charge it is rated for at 6.6kW/h.

Best places to charge a Chrysler Pacifica EV Chargers

This will depend on the PHEV owner’s preference and lifestyle. However, most Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid owners will opt to charge at home to benefit from cheaper overnight charging rates and added convenience. The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid is a plug in hybrid minivan that offers convenience for families. The PHEV can alternatively be charged at work or any public Level 2 charging stations. Depending on the location, overnight stay locations often have charging facilities available that can be used with a 14-50 Level 2 EV charger.

Cost of charging a Chrysler Pacifica EV Chargers

Charging your Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid will depend on a number of factors, such as location (residential or commercial), the time of day you chose to charge, the State you’re charging in, or the charting power. Each of these factors will determine the cost to charge at any given point. The gas engine in the Pacifica provides flexibility for long trips, allowing you to run on gas when needed. For example, in locations such as California, electricity is more expensive than the U.S. current average of 20 ¢/kWh. However, we have estimated the below costs based on the U.S. average tariff.

Place
Home (empty to full)* Commercial chargers**
Avg. cost
$2.4 $6.24
Cost/mile
0.15¢ 0.39¢

* Assumes avg. U.S. tariff of 20 ¢/kWh.  Home charging costs will vary state by state depending on electricity costs
** Assumes tariff of 50 ¢/kWh applicable to most commercial Level 2 network EV chargers

Frequently Asked  Questions
Can I charge my Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid at a commercial charging station?
Minus Icon Plus Icon

You can charge your Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid at Level 2 commercial charging stations, however, PHEVs are not suitable for charging at DC Fast chargers.

What is the fastest charger for my Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid?
Minus Icon Plus Icon

A Level 2 240-volt EV charger is the fastest charging option, at either 32 amps or 40 amps. We offer these chargers as Level 2 14-50 and 6-50 EV chargers.

What connector type does a Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid use?
Minus Icon Plus Icon

The Chrysler Pacifica PHEV uses a Type 1 J1772 connector.

Is a level 1 EV charger sufficient for charging?
Minus Icon Plus Icon

As a Level 1 charger only admits 120V of power, the charge time of 10.5 hours generally limits the ability to fully charge and restricts utilization of electric miles. Depending on EV owner preferences and lifestyles, this may not be sufficient.

What is the most popular level 2 EV charger for Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid?
Minus Icon Plus Icon

As Level 2 chargers can fully charge the Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid in 2.5 hours, a Level 2 14-50 (240V) EV charger is the most popular option.

What is the main benefit of level 2 EV charging?
Minus Icon Plus Icon

The main benefit of Level 2 charging is the ability to utilize advantageous charging times due to higher voltage output. This results in lower costs when using cheaper overnight charge rates and the added convenience of having a fully charged all-electric range at your disposal.

Why can’t I charge my Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid faster?
Minus Icon Plus Icon

Each PHEV has a specific power acceptance rate, which for the Chrysler Pacifica PHEV is currently limited to 6.6 kilowatts per hour. However, future upgraded models could potentially exhibit advanced power acceptance settings to allow faster charging.

How do the active indicator lights work on the Chrysler Pacifica Plug-In Hybrid?
Minus Icon Plus Icon
