The Volt uses a newly available 7.2-kW built-in charger that significantly reduces charging time (2x faster than the standard Chevrolet Volt 2019 LT). We get a lot of inquiries from Volt owners on buying a level 1 or level 2 EV charger. If you bought a Chevrolet Volt 2019 LT upgrade we recommend a level 2 NEMA 14-50 40amp 9.6 kWh or level 2 14-30 24 amp 5.8 kWh. This will reduce charging time from around 5 hours to 2.5 hours for a full recharge compared to the standard level 1 120-volt.
Recommendation: If you have an existing NEMA 14-30 EV plug at home (sometimes in garages or workshops) use that and go for the 24 amp 5.8 kWh version. If not, we recommend a NEMA 14-50 40 amp 9.6 kWh EV charger. It will charge your Chevrolet Volt 2019 LT Upgrade at its fastest charging rate and also futureproof you for your next car. Charge times are fast from an empty battery (2 hour ) and will be around 30 minutes from a 50% battery (happens more in practice)
