Choosing the right plug for your home

Make sure the plug type you choose matches the outlet type you have at home. While many outlets look similar, they are definitely not the same. The one called NEMA 5-15 is the regular 120V household outlet that all home appliances use, while other outlet types, such as the 14-50 or 6-50 (The two most popular EV Charging Outlets), get installed specifically for appliances or EV Chargers that require 240V. That said, there are more 240V outlet types that are commonly used, such as the NEMA 14-30, 6-30, 6-20, L14-30, and more.

There are now a lot of new and used Hyundai Kona vehicles on the road in the U.S. with the Kona being one of the forerunners in the electric vehicle category. The Hyundai Kona is available in hybrid and electric versions and common questions are the Hyundai around the right Hyundai Kona Charging type and the charging speeds for a Hyundai Kona charger. The current Hyundai Kona charging type is a J1772 type 1 connector for residential charging and a CCS 1 for commercial charging. Currently, there is no date as to when Hyundai will move to the NACS charging connector port design.

Hyundai Kona charging time

My EV charger is too slow! Most EV owners ask us about the Hyundai Kona charging time and what are the different charging options to speed up their Hyundai Kona charging time. The below table summarizes charging times and speeds for different common residential EV plug types. We are using the 65 kWh battery version (there are other battery sizes out there but this will be broadly accurate). Owners with smaller battery versions can expect reductions of 20-25% off the below times.

Why upgrade your Hyundai Kona charger?

One of the most common questions is the benefits of upgrades to their residential EV Charger. Some homeowners have level 1 or slower level 2 EV Chargers such as 14-30 EV Chargers that are used as electric dryer plugs. The benefits of the upgrade will be to improve your Hyundai Kona charging time to speeds which can reduce range anxiety, allow for more driving without having to rely on commercial chargers and allow for cheaper charging by getting a full charge overnight during super off-peak hours when electricity is a lot cheaper! Our most popular EV Charger is the NEMA 14-50 240 volt level 2 EV Charger.

Hyundai Kona charger length

We provide a range of charging options for the Hyundai Kona and our two charging cable lengths, the 25 and 32 foot ensure you can charge the vehicle from any residential location. No more stretching, moving the car or navigating garages to be right next to the EV charger.

Where you can charge?

The Hyundai Kona can be charged in a range of commercial, residential and other commercial locations such as City parking, strip malls and offices where DC commercial chargers are available. Due to the long lines, inconvenience and extra expense of commercial charging, most owners we speak to prefer to opt for a level 2 fast charger at home for peace of mind and the cheaper overnight charging.

Best home charger for Kona EV

We supply a range of EV Charger types for the Hyundai Kona and a common question is what the best home charger for the Kona EV. The best home charger should be fast, reliable, high quality, be safely affixed to the wall and be simple to use. Our recommendation is our 40 amp, NEMA 14-50 level 2 EV Charger (EVSE). It will provide the fastest possible charge.

Why choose EV chargers?

At EV chargers, we curated residential EV chargers, which include a suite of accessories, IP67 waterproof standard, delayed charging, adjustability, built-in breaker and ground fault detection. We provide full warranty and warehouse locally in the U.S.
